The Best Roulette
Enjoy roulette and want to play it online? Take the edge off the house edge with these tips:

1. Even money bets have the lowest house edge. They may not pay like the straight up bets, but you'll be able to play longer.
2. Avoid American roulette. European roulette has a lower house advantage due to the fact that there is a single 0 pocket, rather than a 0 and a 00. If you can, play French roulette, which has a theoretical payout of 98.65%. Always check the casinos payout percentage.
3. Avoid the five number bet. The house advantage here is 7.3%. Yes, it's a great payoff, but the odds aren't with you.
5. Set your win/lose limits.Never bet more than you can afford to lose, and don't count on your luck continuing. With limits, you don't walk away a complete loser, and you don't lose everything you've won.

Roulette Terms
American Roulette- version of roulette that has a 0 pocket and a 00 pocket on the wheel.

Bet on the Layout- wager on the numbers part of the table

Call- bets called for on European or French wheels and include Voisins du Zero, Tiers du Cylindre and Orphelins.

Combination-  hedge bet where combined bets on the same spin reduce the risk of losing. However, this also lowers the rate of return on a win.

Corner- 4 number bet which pays out 8:1.

Dozen- an outside bet covering the following groups of numbers: 1-12, or 13-24 or 25-36.

En Plein- straight up bet.

En Prison- on even money bets (red/black, even/odd, Hi/Lo), when the ball lands in the 0 pocket, casinos that play the en prison rule will give you half your bet back or repeat the bet for anouther round.

European Roulette - version of roulette in which the wheel has only one 0 pocket.

Even /Odd- pays out even money.

Five Number- (only available in American roulette) a bet on 0, 00, 1, 2, and 3.

High /Low- bet on the following groups: (19-36) or (1-18). Pays even money.

Inside- bet on individual numbers. Called this because of their layout on the table.

La Partage- like "en prison" except half the bet is lost and you are not able to leave your bet "en prison" for the next spin. Only available on the even money outside bets.

Orphelins (orphans) - a bet on a group of numbers that make up the two slices of the wheel outside the Tiers and Voisins. A total of eight numbers, the Orphans are 17,34,6 and the Orphelins are 1,20,14,31,9.

Outside- any bet that is not a number bet and sits outside the inside bets on the table. These are red, black, odd, even, high, low ...

Payout- the money paid to the player. A higher payout is good since this means a lower house edge. European Roulette has a higher payout than American Roulette.

Red/Black- pays 1:1. Odds are slightly less than 50-50 because of the zero pocket which is what gives the house its advantage.

Six Line Bet (Sixainne)- bet on 6 numbers simultanously.

Split Bet- a 2 number bet.

Straight Up- to bet on one number. Pays 35:1.

Street Bet- a bet on three numbers.

Tiers du Cylindre (The Third)- a bet on the numbers which are at the opposite sides of the wheel between 27 and 33 inclusive. In European Roulette, the numbers are 27,13,36,11,30,8,23,10,5,24,16,33. To bet this, place 6 chips as follows:. 1 chip is placed on each of these split bets: 5/8; 10/11; 13/16; 23/24; 27/30; 33/36.

Tier 5,8,10,11- type of Tiers du Cylindre in which an extra chip is bet as a straight up bet (individual numbers) on 5, 8, 10 and 11; and so is a 10-piece bet.

Trio- a bet on the result being one of 3 numbers.

Voisins du Zero (Neighbours of Zero)- a bet on a  group adjacent to the zero. In European Roulette these are between 22 and 25 inclusive: 22,18,29,7,28,12,35,3,26,0,32,15,19,4,21,2,25. To make the bet, use 9 chips as follows: 2 chips on the 0,2,3 trio, 1 on the 4/7 split; 1 on the 12/15 split; 1 on the 18/21 spilt; 1 on 19/22; 2 on the 25/26/28/29 corner bet; and 1 on the 32/35 split.

Zero (0), Double Zero (00)- the green coloured pocket on the wheel. European Roulette only has a 0 pocket. American Roulette has a 0 pocket AND a 00 pocket.
